Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the 10th anniversary of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and invited citizens to share their UPI experiences.

Official government figures cited around the anniversary report a large increase in UPI annual transaction volume and value over the decade: annual volume rising from about 1.78–2 crore (FY2016–17) to approximately 24,162 crore (FY2025–26), and transaction value rising from about ₹0.07 lakh crore to approximately ₹314 lakh crore (FY2025–26).

The payments system was developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in 2016, with pilot activity beginning in April 2016 and a commonly cited public-rollout date later in 2016 (25 August 2016 is commonly cited).

Government reporting and press coverage around the anniversary state that UPI’s reach and international footprint expanded significantly, with examples cited by the government including roughly 703 banks live on UPI as of FY2025–26 and UPI operational in 11 countries.

In his message marking the milestone, the Prime Minister invited citizens to share their UPI experiences, reproducing a quote urging people to 'Tell me about your UPI experience and how it impacted your life...'.
